Delicious tonkatsu lunch in a romantic back alley! Introducing “Fukuyoshi”!

Akihabara is a sacred place for Japanese subcultures, but it is also frequented by many business people, and there are numerous famous shops hidden in its back alleys. Among them, the pork “tonkatsu” cutlet, which is popular among foreign tourists, a favorite menu item that satisfies both the stomach and soul of business people who want the energy to go that extra mile in the afternoon. In this post, we would like to introduce Fukuyoshi, a popular tonkatsu restaurant located in a back alley.

Fukuyoshi is a 4-minute walk from the Showadori exit of JR Akihabara Station, and it is known as a popular tonkatsu restaurant in the Akihabara area. The shop is located in a back alley in front of Doutor Coffee, just around the corner from Resona Bank on Showa Dori. The opening is small, so please look carefully or you’ll miss it. You will recognize it by its red shade. The restaurant is only open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly.

There is a signboard with the menu written on it in front of the store. Another notable point is that you can enjoy carefully selected cutlet menus such as “Tonkatsu Set Meal” and “Katsu Curry” for under ¥1,000. There are also daily lunch specials with fried entrees other than tonkatsu, so you can enjoy your rice with crispy fried foods.

The inside of the store is clean, with a simple cafeteria-style atmosphere. There are only about 15 seats, so expect it to be crowded during peak hours around lunchtime. There are many counter-type seats for solo diners, and also small table seats for two people. The rastaurant is the busiest a little after lunch, so if you want to enjoy a leisurely meal, plan your visit for a different time.

Take-out is also available with a wide variety of tonkatsu menus. Additionally, on Saturdays, Fukuyoshi features a lineup of special menu items that you can enjoy at a great value. However, please note that the restaurant is closed on the first Saturday of every month.

The restaurant’s signature dish is the “Tonkatsu Set Meal”. You can enjoy a tonkatsu pork cutlet, accompanied by cabbage, miso soup, and hearty bowl of rice. It’s a real bargain, and the pork has a crispy coating and is soft and easy to bite into, giving it a delightful texture. Adding a little of the special thick tonkatsu sauce, already on each table, takes the tonkatsu and rice to the next level.

“Katsudon” is a popular menu with many repeat customers. On top of the rice, tonkatsu and onions are topped with egg. It is a perfect balance between the crispness of the tonkatsu, the gentle sweetness of the soup stock, and the elegant saltiness. The onions also have a slight crunch, so you can enjoy the rich texture.

This time we introduced Fukuyoshi, located in a back alley along Showa-dori in Akihabara. The special tonkatsu is so crispy that you can’t help but stir in the rice. This is a store that will give you energy for the rest of the afternoon, which is essential for business people working hard in Akihabara. We particularly recommend the good deals on Saturdays, so come end enjoy a delicious tonkatsu lunch!
